Richey Beckett: Fallen Torches

A brand new art print from the one and only Richey Beckett!

The artwork was originally created for the Mastodon song "Fallen Torches," based on a concept by drummer Brann Dailor. Beckett expanded upon Dailor's vision with a unique combination of natural forms, ancient architecture and the Mastodon 'fire' sigil (first seen on their debut album Remission). The illustration was created using the reductive method of scraper on board, inspired by ancient engravings. The color palette also echoes the Remission artwork, so as to bookend what became a career-spanning collection of rare material on the Medium Rarities album, where this artwork ultimately came to life.

Finally, the image was framed with gold motifs, a secret language of symbols that has been expanding in the series of gig posters Beckett has recently designed for the band. In this work these glyphs appear to be an ancient language but also represent the motherboard of a futuristic computer system.
