Hand-Painted Signs of Kratie

While I was in Cambodia this past March, I became fascinated with the Khmer alphabet and the signs featuring those letters (See my earlier post about the signs and visuals I found in Cambodia and Laos). While shopping in Phnom Penh, I found a great book entitled Hand-Painted Signs of Kratie filled with photographs of signs found in Kratie, a small, rural city in Central Cambodia. Check out a few pics from the book and then order a copy! It makes a great companion to the popular Faythe Levine & Sam Macon Sign Painters book released last year.

Signs & Visuals of Cambodia and Laos
I'm wrapping up the last few days of a long ass trip around the Southeast corner of the globe. Aside from enjoying the food, nature, history, and lack of snow, I've also been taking tons of photos of signs and other visually-inspiring imagery. Here are some things that caught my eye in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, Cambodia, and Luang Prabang, Laos.

I was getting a lot of funny looks snapping a photo of this emblem on the side of a trash can just outside Phnom Penh's Central Market. Totally worth it.

Sign Related: Artist Talk & Closing Reception

Since we opened Sign Related in January, we've had a large number of gallery visitors coming by to check out the show and also ask us a lot of questions regarding the making of all the fantastic work. We decided the best solution would be to let the artists speak for themselves!
We are having a special artist talk with Sign Related's Peyton Scott Russell, Ben Janssens, Dan "Dusty" Madsen, and Matt Thompson. Read More

Cool old signs
I'm never not taking photos of handpainted signs, logos, or other design artifacts when I'm walking around. Here's a batch of recent images I've come across. Enjoy!
