I may be a little biased...

2010 Jul by Burlesque of North America

...but I'm going to go ahead and say ""The Suburbs"" is a great, great album. Here's an image of the exclusive poster I designed that comes with the album pre-order. It's a four color print on grout gray french paper printed by the whole BRLSQ crew headed up by Ben Lafond. If you ordered the package, expect it soon. We won't have them online ourselves. We will have the rest of the tour posters though. Coming soon- August US tour with 5 different color versions, NYC Madison Square Garden and Toronto.

...and this is what I did at SXSW...

2010 Mar by Burlesque of North America

Another whirlwind SXSW adventure in Austin has come and gone. I'm glad I took as many photos as I did so I can piece it all back together in my brain. Just like everyone else, we saw some amazing music, ate some great food, and wore ourselves out. These are but a handful of some of my favorite pics from the weekend. Many many more can be found on my Flickr Here we go! We saw People Under the Stairs. Hands down some of my favorite dudes to see live... Followed by Solillaquists of Sound...that's 3 MPCs there. Yep...playing it with his face... Oh....three steps down the street....it's Mayer Hawthorne playing at the Levi's Fader Fort! good thing Belk ""drank 11 Red Bulls that day...."" Flatstock brought this woman together with her poster doppelganger and she couldnt have been more excited... Friday evening and time to hit the streets again...Raphael Saadiq, Smokey Robinson, Breakestra, and Tobacco...all in about 3 hours...whew... wow. what a night.... Saturday found us a bit chilly...Jodi G. and our dear friend Laura shared my coat. adorable. It was well worth the wait in the cold to wind up front row for Cut Chemist, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Mos Def. Whoa. and those dudes know how to rock a party.... Big thanks to everyone who made this year great! Again, check out the full set of photos on Flickr

We're finally back in town after a great trip to Austin. Thanks to everyone who came by our booth at Flatstock to pick up posters, t-shirts, records, and sticker packs, or just to say hello. Thanks to Drue and the whole crew at Silhouette for letting us have our Do it To it party at their fine establishment for the third year running. Thanks to all of our friends we saw, new friends we made, and all that. We had a blast. Here are a few memories... Pork and green chile taco, two bacon egg & cheese tacos from Torchy's. Ben and Bjorn hanging up our brand new banner in our booth at Flatstock 20. Our booth starting to take shape! Obama is checking out Arcade Fire, and King Kong is guarding the side wall. Dance party at Silhouette to celebrate the release of Do it To it! Our buddy Bird Peterson on the turntables. OHAI MIKE PLAY SINGLE LADIEZ!!!!!1 Wes snaps pics of Dave Nada and Tittsworth at Do it To it. Sixtoo of Megasoid bringing the turbocrunklazerbass madness. A major moment from DJ Class and Scottie B's set at the Unruly Records showcase, A Baltimore Love Thing. Sage Francis reppin' the new Burlesque sweatshirt. XXXchange only drinks Burlesque brand Moustachio Beer. On Sunday night, we went to go check out UK dubstep sensation Rusko. Outside the club, we found the world's only female dubstep fan!

BROTHERS AND SISTERS

2009 Mar by Burlesque of North America

All of this fraudulence talk is starting to bum me out. Let's talk about something fun. How about... BRLSQOTHEQUE's new vinyl record?!?!? The follow-up to last year's Do it To it EP, Do it To it Vol. 2 is here and hits even heavier with six brand new skull-crushing club cuts from some of our absolute favorites in the world of underground dance music. Everyone involved in this project brought their A GAME and it's a sheer honor for us to get to release this record. SIDE 1 Bird Peterson ""Torture Motherf*cker"" Dave Nada ""JB Baby"" Emynd ""Hold it Down 2009"" SIDE 2 Wizard of Gaz ""Preacher Man"" Tittsworth ""I'm Rich"" Mike the 2600 King ""Hold Up I'm Comin'"" Listen to snippets HERE Vinyl comes packaged in a jacket designed by Mike Davis and screenprinted and hand-assembled by Petey Wheatstraw and the hard-working crew here at Burlesque of North America. Printing is underway! The team has been puttin' in hours to make sure this bad boy looks bad enough for all of you. Be the first to grab the record at the official DO IT TO IT party! Thursday March 19 at Silhouette. 718 Congress Ave, Austin TX. 8pm until late. Click HERE to RSVP!!!

More On Fraudulence

2009 Mar by Burlesque of North America

In response to a question by KyleHL, here is a list of the known unauthorized editions floating around. Please keep in mind that it's sort of a buyer-beware situation, but it is often fairly easy to find out if a piece for sale is legitimate or not. Jacob Bannon, ""Jane Doe"" (prints are giclees, supposedly only 6 were sold, not reproduced from our screenprint, counterfeit print is on very thin paper, signed and numbered, apparently numbered 27 or 29) Aaron Horkey, line art from ""Hurricane Relief"" (line art never released so if you are offered this it is a fraud, sold as original art, exactly same size as poster) Shepard Fairey ""Progress"" (original was a screen print, unauthorized duplicates are offset on thin paper, but are signed and numbered) Aaron Horkey ""Catalyst"" show catalog prints (uncut sheets, supposedly signed, but Aaron had never heard of them) Florian Bertmer ""Face In The mirror"" (never released by Florian, edition of 10, added to expressobeans.com art database, but none are known to have been sold) There is a massive, super-nerdy thread at expressobeans.com called Curious about the fraud in the scene, and a few dozen other unrelated topics. There's another, more concise thread here, but the best summary is this one.

On Fraudulence

2009 Feb by Burlesque of North America

It has come to our attention that a number of our posters have recently been illegally and cheaply reproduced and resold under the guise of being original Burlesque prints or, in one case, original artwork. If you ever have a question about the authenticity of a Burlesque poster, please feel free to ask us and we'll do our best to help clear up any confusion.

BK-One of Brother Ali and RSE drops the first BRLSQOTHEQUE podcast of 2009

Did you know we have a podcast that comes out with new installments every week or so? They feature Twin Cities and national DJs and music enthusiasts putting together mixes of all sorts for your enjoyment. You can subscribe right here to the RSS Feed. All the episodes, along with Burlesque sponsored events are listed here on the BRLSQOTHEQUE page. BRLSQ vs ZOO YORK

2009 Jan by Burlesque of North America

A little over a year ago, the folks over at Zoo York told me they loved my Alphabet poster and wanted me to design a t-shirt based on it for their Spring 2009 line... soooo I did, and now it's sort of almost Spring 2009 and the shirt has begun to surface in stores and on websites. If you want to find this shirt online, ask Google about ""Zoo York Burlesque Stack."" RELATED: We are now printing the third edition of the aforementioned Alphabet poster. We switched around a few of the colors once again and will be printing on white and off-white paper. Check for the restock in our online store in about one week!
