Well it’s just about the end of year, which can only mean one thing: Christmas? Nope. Chanukah? Nope. Organization of fiscal year tax information? Not even close. YEAR IN REVIEW TIME! 2008 was a great year for us, so now it’s time for a trip down Memory Lane (capitalized because it’s an actual street).
We sent out a request for international snacks and the response was outstanding!

The print squad wrapped up our biggest project to date: Aaron Horkey’s “Whale Bone Grove”

Triple Rock Social Club let us start throwing a weekly party with DJs, 2 for 1 drinks, video games, and good times.

We got our first pinball machine!

N.W.A’s Arabian Prince came to Minneapolis to blow the roof off of First Avenue for Dre Day.

We made our first vinyl record:
We bid our old office building a heartfelt PEACE THE FUCK OUT.

We had a blast at Flatstock in Austin:

Mass Appeal Magazine gave us a huge feature in their 51st and final issue.

We grew moustaches and mullets.

We partied like rockstars porn stars screenprinters.

We printed (and decorated) more Obama posters than McCain could shake an angry old man finger at.

We set up shop at Flatstock in Seattle.

We supported Obama.

We got a visit from the Mayor of Minneapolis.

And of course we published and printed “Exodus From the Land of Play” by our talented friend David Choe!

Whew. We’re fortunate to be able to do what we do and couldn’t do it without your help! Thanks to everyone who has supported us this year and here’s looking forward to a great 2009!
Usually, ever Thursday we have a new awesome item for sale in our webstore. But since next Thursday is Christmas day, we’ll be wishing you a Happy Holidays instead. We do have some cool things in store for you soon though. We’re going to have the 2nd edition of the Melvins vs. MPLS 3 CD set made available along with some of the recent Star Spangled Banner 7″s the Melvins put out on AmRep.
To tide you over, check out the photo set I shot from their recent shows in Minneapolis. Last Saturday was a special encore after Big Business played at Triple Rock. Then Sunday, they played at Grumpy’s Roseville. Nearly the whole staff along with David Choe & Co. made it to the Big Business show and were lovin’ it.
Speaking of David Choe (how’s that for a subtle segue?), thanks to everyone so far that’s picked up the “Exodus” print. A lot of blood, sweat and tears, mostly Ben and Bjorn’s, went into the making of this one and it’s been great getting so much attention for it. We’re going to be posting some little features on it in the next couple weeks. Bjorn will be giving everyone a more in depth look on how a print like this comes together color by color. I’ll be putting together a slide show of some of the unique additions David drew, dripped and otherwise made on each of the prints. Also, a few people inquired about possibly setting up a payment plan. We know this is a pricey piece so if anyone would like to set something up, please email orders@burlesquedesign.com

2pm Central, in The Store. More info about the print.

We did an interview for Obama Art Report recently. We talk about a whole bunch of stuff including how we got involved with Upper Playground to do the Obama print series this year. That series led to this year’s grand finale of a print with David Choe, “Exodus From the Land of Play.” We mentioned it goes on sale at 2pm Thursday Dec 18th, right?
We’re finished! We did it! After weeks of ink mixing, computer screen staring, printing, printing, printing, poster staring, printing, and also printing, the print crew here has wrapped up work onĀ David Choe’s Exodus From the Land of Play. Dave came to town over the weekend to watch the last colors go down (oh, by the way, did we say it was going to be 13 colors? Cause it is now 18 colors!), sign and number the prints, and then draw and paint on all of them, making each print truly one-of-a-kind!
It goes on sale Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 2:00PM (central time).
Mike put together this sweet little promo video to show y’all a little bit of how we went about crushing this monsterpiece.

The Gang With The Print

We’re all about process, so here’s a bunch of Bjorn’s photos and a bunch of Wezz’ photos.

Yep, I slapped this together today with some chewing gum and lighter fluid to get us through the holiday season while I work on the new-and-super-improved burlesquedesign.com.
